My dear friends in Christ,
Our local Church has been a great opportunity to literally display our faith in such a public way. The diocese was awarded a spot in this year's Honolulu City Lights and EPIC Young Adult Ministry volunteered to spearhead this special project. But they need your help to make this a success!
Attached is a basic sketch of our vision for the display. Here is a brief explanation of the various elements:
- The focus is on the family, especially on the Holy Family, the Nativity scene with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph will be the focal point of the entire display.
- Piggybacking on the overall theme for this year's Honolulu City Lights, "Shaka Santa Goes Holoholo," we incorporated the same "Shaka" Santa holoholo-ing to bow before the Christ Child, complete with his surfboard at his side with the inscription, "Santa Would Go" (taking the idea from the City's official 2013 ornament). For more info on the City's overall theme, see their website at honolulucitylights.org
- Four Christmas trees form an Advent wreath with each tree representing the candles. On each tree will be placed ornaments of its respective colors (three purple trees and one pink) with greenery connecting its bases.
- Also on each tree, we will be incorporating the multicultural families of our island home by placing photos of various ethnic and local families. We will also be putting ornaments with the different flags from around the world with the name of Jesus written in each respective language.
As you can see, though it is a relatively simple idea, there is MUCH work to do and we only have a week to accomplish it. The display must be completed between November 30 - December 6. So WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We need help to create the various ornaments. We need help getting the supplies and creating the scenery. We need help physically putting it together. So whatever gifts and talents you, your ministry, or ANYONE you know can contribute, please do. We need artists, woodworkers, painters, suppliers, crafters, laminators, and people who just have some spare time to help in little ways.
If you can help or know of anyone who would be willing to help, please reply to this email. Together, we can create a display that keeps Christ at the center of this season. I pray all is well with you and your ministry. Have a great Thanksgiving celebration! God bless!
